Fresh and finished audio fiction!

Issue #47 | 27 Jul 2023

This is the time of year I wished I lived in the southern hemisphere. 🥵 If you too are struggling with the heat or other crazy climate stuff, we shall commiserate together.

A huge shout out to Ostium Network for becoming the latest creative shop to support The End. They make a variety of fiction podcasts, and their flagship show—Ostium—has been publishing episodes since 2016. Thanks, Alex and crew, for your support! (And if you're reading this paragraph with jealousy in your heart and a few coins in your pocket, perhaps you'll consider supporting us too?)

Also—astute readers of The End will notice that this issue's two Featured titles were highlighted in issues just a few weeks ago. Since then, I've listened to both of them in their entirety and found them worthy of the coveted Featured spots. So if you missed them when I first told you about them, here's your second chance with my compliments.

Let's get into it, shall we?

- Evo

Featured Audio Fiction

I've listened to every episode of these two shows, and proudly recommend them to you. As with all things in life, YMMV.

Pearl River Remains

Narrated southern gothic ghost story from Daryl Lisa Fazio

When human bones are discovered in a Mississippi river bed, Fran Boden—a loner with peculiar gifts—returns to her small town to probe the origins of her mother’s long-ago disappearance and confront the ghosts of her family, both living and dead.

Written and Performed by Daryl Lisa Fazio, from her novel manuscript of the same name. With intro/outro music by Phillip DePoy.

  • Series complete as of 12 Oct 2022
  • 22 episodes
  • Listening time: 9h 01m

Evo's notes: A very subtle "ghost story" (I'd say urban fantasy or weird brain powers) with a compelling narrator who puts you right in the scene. I quickly ignored the small production imperfections.
